Formely known as Riccarton Mall, this large retail complex location in the suburb of Riccarton just a short walk from your Riccarton motel - Westside Motor Lodge and is Christchurch's oldest shopping mall.
First opened in 1965, Westfield Riccarton it is renowned throughout New Zealand and considered a must visit for shopping fanatics visiting Christchurch. The mall was extensively developed in 2003 at a cost of $90 million. A major aspect of the redevelopment was a leisure component which included a six screen cinema complex. It has the second largest movie projection screen in New Zealand. A restaurant and cafe area was also added to Westfield Riccarton mall.
Just six years later in 2009 the mall opened phase one of a new $75 million development. This included 40 new retail stores, a new food court, plus an additional screen was adding to the cinema complex. The expansion project of Westfield Riccarton also saw a 400 capacity car parking building constructed. Westfield Riccarton is New Zealand's third largest shopping mall in terms of retail space.
Riccarton Park Racecourse
Situated 30 minutes drive from Christchurch Airport and just a short walk from 298 Westside Christchurch motel, Riccarton Park Racecourse is Christchurch's premier horse race course.
The Canterbury Jockey Club has operated from Riccarton Park Racecourse for over 155 years and plays host to some of the most prestigious races in New Zealand including the New Zealand Cup in November each year. In total, Riccarton Park Racecourse plays home to 22 race days each season.
With limited car parking available around the course on race day, staying at our Riccarton Road motel means that you have the luxury of being able to leave your car at the motel and just take a leisurely stroll to the race course.
Riccarton Park is considered New Zealand's finest full service racing complex, with its Events Centre holding various functions, conferences and weddings throughout the year.
Riccarton House and Bush

This unique New Zealand heritage site consists of two historic buildings and is flanked by stunning open park land and ornate gardens. If you're looking at visiting this 12 hectare reserve, you can take a peaceful stroll through the bush and park grounds before or after morning or afternoon tea or lunch either in the Drawing Room or outside in the courtyard.

A visit to Christchurch or any big city for that matter, wouldn't be the same without a nice relaxing morning wondering around the local farmers market looking for a mothers or fathers day gift or present for any other occasion.
Situated at Riccarton House, which is just 5 minutes walking distance from Westfield Riccarton, the Christchurch Farmers' Market is open from 9am - 1pm on Saturdays. It offers an authentic culinary experience where you can sample fresh produce and other gourmet foods made by various local growers and producers.
Here you can buy cheese from Canterbury Cheesemongers and bread from Bellbird or Le Panier. Plus you will find pulled pork from Taste, a bacon buttie from the Bacon Brothers. You might also like to sample pancakes, salmon or oyster pies, cakes by Cakes By Anna or fruit and veges from various local growers.

Parks & Gardens in Riccarton
Auburn ReserveAuburn Reserve is a peaceful haven located just off Riccarton Road and just 5 minutes’ walk from Westside Motor Lodge. It's a small pocket of sheltered parkland, tucked safely away from the busy road. There are a few lovely established trees, perfect for a picnicking under in the summer and a quiet playground and basketball hoop for entertaining the kids.
Harrington Park is a popular and sunny 1 hectare park on Peveral Street, less than 15 minutes’ walk from your Riccarton motel accommodation at Westside. On a safe, quiet street, it has a great playground with swings, block wall and climbing equipment, a basketball half-court and even a flying fox. You could spend hours here with the kids - they'll love it.
If you enjoy a stroll and a picnic in beautiful gardens, be sure to visit Mona Vale while you're staying with us at Westside motel in Riccarton. Built in 1897, the homestead sits in 5.5 ha of English style gardens on the banks of the Avon River. Sadly, the buildings are currently closed for earthquake repairs but the stunning herbaceous borders and exquisite rose gardens more than make up for it.
