Christchurch Hosts New Zealand's First Professional Bull Riding

The biggest week on Christchurch's events calendar just got even bigger with professional bull riding being held in the city and the country for the first time. With the New Zealand Trotting Cup & Show week attracting as many as 40,000 visitors to Christchurch, several other event organisers have identified this as an opportune time to expose locals and visitors to new events and forms of entertainment. The Professional Bull Riding New Zealand Cup is being held at Christchurch's Horncastle Arena, a venue more accustomed to hosting netball tests and rock concerts. It will feature local and overseas professional riders attempt to stay on for eight seconds and scored on control, rhythm and style. ![]() The event, which will feature a three-time world champion from Brazil, is set to become an annual event as part of Cup Week in Christchurch for at least the next five years. |
