Kathmandu Coast to Coast to Boost Christchurch Motel Bookings
The Coast to Coast race is a world-leading multi-sport event and it will be helping to put Christchurch and Canterbury in the spotlight.
The annual Coast to Coast which finishes on Christchurch's eastern beaches, recently announced its new partnership with outdoor adventure brand Kathmandu. The newly branded Kathmandu Coast to Coast will be unveiling the best of the South Island to a huge national and international audience via digital and social media channels.
As one of New Zealand’s leading sporting events, the iconic Coast to Coast is an opportunity to market Christchurch as a vibrant, must-see destination and showcase the South Island's natural beauty. Outdoor enthusiasts will be inspired to experience it all firsthand.
Vic Allen, Chief Executive of Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism, said Kathmandu’s commitment to increase promotion of the race would help boost visitor numbers to Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region.
Richard Ussher, Kathmandu Coast to Coast Race Director, agreed Kathmandu will be invaluable in helping profile the race and encouraging visitors to come and explore the region.
Having firmly established overseas markets in countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom, the brand has already identified different marketing strategies to suit adventure-loving customers in each region.
The multi-sport travel market is worth a lot to the city's economy. Competitors travelling to Christchurch for the race also bring support crew. They spend on meals and supplies as well as accommodation. A comfortable room and good night's sleep are a priority for many competitors so they tend to book their Christchurch motel accommodation early.
The Kathmandu Coast to Coast will be held on Friday 10 February 2017, coinciding with Kathmandu’s 30 year anniversary. Race entries open on Wednesday 27 April.
